Why a good tally counter app is more than a button

On top of that comes reliability. An accidental double-tap can be undone, several counters run in parallel, and each keeps its value even after you close the app. So you don't have to remember where you were — the counter knows.

How to count reliably

A good counter is set up in seconds and then simply runs along with you. Here's how you go about it:

• Name the counter: Give it a name like "Entry" or "Rows" so you can tell several apart.
• Enable the volume buttons: That way you count without looking at the screen.
• Set the step: Count in ones, twos or any step you like, depending on the task.
• Run several in parallel: Keep different things cleanly apart instead of mixing everything into one counter.
• Reset deliberately: Only reset to zero once you've noted the final value or no longer need it.

That way you don't rely on your memory but on a counter that has exactly one job — and does it without distraction. Once the count is set up, you stop thinking about the app and only think about what you're counting.
